Tomorrow is the official release of Justin Timberlake‘s third – and his best so far – album, The 20/20 Experience. Hot Stuff: French Singers

Yesterday, a friend of mine enrolled into a french course and it brought me back memories of when I learned this beautiful language. Edith Piaf was certainly a major influence and helped me a lot with my studies. Since Rock This Buskin is on a little break – it will be back soon, promise – today’s Hot Stuff is all about french singers.

I know, Pink Martini‘s lead singer China Forbes is from Massachusetts, but her father is part french, so that makes her frenchy as well.

Edith Piaf certamente me influenciou bastante e me ajudou muito nos estudos.

Pink Martini – Je Ne Veux Pas Travailler

Camille – Ta Douleur

Adrienne Pauly – J’Veux Un Mec

Charlotte Gainsbourg – Terrible Angels

Françoise Hardy – Mon Amie La Rose

Olivia Ruiz – Belle à en Crever

Joyce Jonathan – L’heure Avait Sonné

Pauline Croze – T’es Beau

Carla Bruni – Quelqu’un M’a Dit

Happy Birthday, Chameleon

Inspiration to musicians, artists, designers and people like you and me, David Bowie transformed music and the art of performance in his own peculiar way.

He questioned a china girl if there’s life on Mars, invited Ziggy Stardust to dance in the streets – maybe in a Suffragette city, even though Lucy can’t dance – and said “Louie, Louie, go home, because when you rock ‘n roll with me, it ain’t easy.”

Sweet thing, telling lies, for a girl like you, is like a magic dance in this modern love, because you’re young in this criminal world.  A prisoner of love, a queen bitch who think everything’s alright, but knows it’s hard to be a saint in the city.  Julie and Janine got fame by telling lies, while John and Joe saw what was really happening – they were growin’ up and realized it was time to get real.

It was time for changes and they learned  not to be afraid and don’t look down when reality is always crashing in the same car. But most importantly, they now know that we all can be heroes, even if for just one day.

Grrr The Rolling Stones Live Yesterday

Screen Shot 2012-12-15 at 11.01.16 PM

Who says you can’t get no satisfaction for only 0,99 cents? Yesterday, I got mine. Sure I’d rather be there in person, but since tickets sold out in a few minutes – plus my private jet wasn’t available at the time to take me to Newark – I watched this little gig online.

Still have no words to describe the whole thing, but I surely can’t complain about the quality of sound and HD video – even got to see Chris Rock, Sarah Jessica Parker, Terry Richardson and Gaga enjoying the show. By the way, Gaga was probably hooked on the bad shit, never seen a bitch jump so much in heels like those…

The Black Keys, John Mayer and that guy with a hat I forgot the name, Bruce Springsteen and so many more guests…

Sorry about some pictures, but since I could not pause the image to take the snap shots, some of them got a bit blurry. I am completely in love with the b&w pic I took from Mister Richards! ❤

ps: PHENOMENAL intro with the gorillas and amazing stage!

Foo Fighters VH1 Storytellers

I just transcribed what Dave was saying as I watched the video, so if there’s any misspelled words, pardon my french.

“It was only a matter of time before we had to make a video. Which was something we were kind of  inicially opposed to doing. We were like ‘ fuck that corporate fuck vh1 bullshit.’ And then, you know, how easily we were sued to do that, so…we made a video for this song called ‘Big Me’, which we got all these different treatments from different directors, like ‘ I see…a thousand fluorescent a.m. radios on a beach. The sky is pink and there’s, you know, a unicorn ‘ whatever. The song is two and a half minutes long, we read these treatments like ‘no, no, no’, and then this guy named Jesse Peretz  sends us this treatment that just says ‘ you ever seen those Mentos commercials?’, that’s all it said.

We were like ‘ dude, that sounds perfect’. The song sounds like a candy commercial, this is perfect. And I remember when we were doing it, Pat, the guitar player, he goes ‘ you know that every time we play this, for the rest of our lives, people are gonna throw that fucking candy at us, every night, right?’ Noo, there’s no way they’ll do that. Sure as hell, the video comes out, first night of the tour  in Denver, it’s  like ‘ this song is called Big Me’ and it was like riot guns of mentos, just shooting. And those fucking things hurt, you know, they’re like rocks. Not like marshmallow candies, they’re hard. So then, we played it for, whatever, a tour, and I was like ‘ fuck this song. I don’t wanna play it if these people are gonna throw these stuff at us. So we stopped, and I mean, we stopped playing it like for ten years, I never wanted to hear that song again, hated that song.

Four years ago we were on tour in Canada, we were sitting there, I’m like ‘ you know what, it’s been ten years, let’s play Big Me. Do mentos even exist anymore, I don’t know, I haven’t seen one of those commercials in ten years.’ So I walk up on stage, we’re playing…sure as hell, someone throws us a full pack, man, right in the face too. So I stopped the song and I’m like ‘ you know what everybody, look, it’s been ten years. Enough with the mentos, they’re so 1996 or whatever. Stop it with the mentos, and you know what, let’s just all have a sort of little ceremonies, so we can lay this stupid mentos thing to rest and I’m gonna burn a pack of mentos on stage, so we can have this ritualistic ending to this. So I got my pack, I’m looking for my lighter and I’m like ‘somebody have a lighter?’ and ten thousand people threw they’re fucking lighter at my face. So if you have any mentos tonight, you can fucking shove ‘em up you ass.

This song’s called ‘Big Me’. “

Life Would be Way Better Without Latino

For those of you who don’t have a clue who Latino is, here’s a little background history of this beloved and acclaimed brazilian “artist” and “song writer” : he started his career back in the ’90s as a funk melody singer, and achieved “success” with songs like “Me Leva”, “Festa no Apê” and “Dança Kuduro”really, don’t even bother to google this shit, it’s not worth the time.

To summarize, bitch basically screwed up a bunch of other artists songs. He’s new single is inspired by Psy’s Gangnam Style, which became “Despedida de Solteiro” – a very classy video, by the way, but not

Seriouslly, give it up, man. Go do something else with your life. We already have enough shitty music going on worldwide, there’s no point bringing another one. Our ears appreciate it.

Nossos ouvidos agradecem.

Happy Birthday, Michael Balzary

Michael who? FLEA, bitches! Today is his 50th birthday – also, John Mayer celebrates his 35th year on this planet, but he’s a total douche – although I like his music – so, whatever. Oscar Wilde would be 158 today, so go read one of his books.

I’ve always liked Frusciante better, but Flea seems to be a pretty cool fella – for those of you who don’t know, in 2008 he decided to take the band’s time off to enroll his ass at the University of Southern California, in LA, to study music theory, music composition and jazz trumpet.

MTV published a few years back: A student trying to learn who also happens to be a rock star — a realization Flea said hit him last week. “I was running across campus with my backpack, and I didn’t want to be tardy,” he said. “I was thinking, ‘What the f— am I doing? I’m a 45-year-old rock star and I’m worried about being tardy?’ “

Gotta love him, man!

Here’s a Chili Peppers video I like very much – not saying it’s one of their best songs ever, but it’s ok in a way – directed by Mark Romanek and inspired by Erwin Wurm’s “One-Minute Sculptures”.

Michael quem?

Happy Birthday, Mister Lazy Eye

One of my favorite musicians is turning 43 today. Think I might’ve said here before I used to be afraid of him – and Björk as well…something to do with the eye thing.

To celebrate this exotic beautiful day, here’s Radiohead performing on the Austin City Limits tv show.
